World premičre of Ciarán Farrell’s ‘The Pilgrim’s Return'.
Last night saw the world première of Ciarán Farrell's 'The Pilgrim's Return' for soprano sax and string quartet at London's most prestigious chamber music venue, Wigmore Hall. The three movement work, performed by saxophone virtuoso Gerard McChrystal and The Smith Quartet, was met with rapturous applause at the end of its' first ever live performance. The concert entitled 'SAX +!' also featured other breathtaking performances by Gerard with special guests Craig Ogden (guitar), Mary Dullea (piano) and Tom Blach (piano). The Arts Council of Ireland funded work, 'The Pilgrim's Return', can be heard live next year on a Music Network sponsored tour of Ireland by Gerard McChrystal and The Smith Quartet with dates still to be confirmed.
